UK OFFSHORE GET THICK END OF THE WEDGE

Can anyone explain why the British offshore brigade have to pay more than their circuit cousins for racing licences. To compete in UK circuit classes i.e. F2, F4, GT15 or GT30, the cost of a licence is £250. However to compete in Club class or National events, a two man crew has to pay £300 EACH totalling £600. The RYA say they are trying to avoid favourtism but if circuit…

SEPA’S TORQUAY RACE CANCELLED

It seemed strange when it was announced that the South East Powerboat Association (SEPA) was staging an offshore race in Torquay two weeks after OCRDA’s Torquay event. However it has since been announced SEPA’s race has been cancelled due to lack of entries. This is the second successive meeting SEPA has cancelled after their European championship last year hit the buffers.

CLASS 1 – IS THE SLEEPING GIANT STIRRING

It might be a rumour were hearing or it might have some truth but whispers coming from Norway are suggesting that the UIM World Class 1 championship might be resurrected at the end of 2016. Although a provisional calender has been produced at least two of the venues seem most unlikely. If it does happend the venues that are able to stage a round of the series are all in…

VENTURE CUP CANCELLED

Published below is the press statement from the Venture Cup organisers: It is with enormous regret that we must advise you that the 2016 Venture Cup has been cancelled. Scarborough gets the UK race season off to a flying start

Scarborough served up a weekend of mighty, rolling waves that made surfers smile and powerboat and jet ski racers frown. With the safety of competitors being the primary concern, Saturday’s race programme was almost entirely abandoned and it was by no means certain that the fierce northerly wind and huge swell would die down sufficiently to allow Sunday’s racing to go ahead. But the wild North Sea calmed a little…

GLORIOUS WEATHER ROUNDED OFF SUPERB OCRDA TORQUAY WEEKEND

The fleet was reduced by four for day two of the OCRDA’s opening Grand Prix of 2016. Mechanical problems were the main reasons why a few boats stayed ashore. However the crowds were robbed of a promising head to head between the two favourites in A class. On day one Jeremy Gibson won heat one with Graham Lawton a close second. In race two positions were reversed and we were…

KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR COULD BE THE SAVIOUR OF UK OFFSHORE

Rob McCarthy might have his critics, but those folks were made to eat their words when twenty boats arrived in Torquay for OCRDA’s opening race of 2016. Not surprisingly no-one from the RYA turned up to witness the occasion but it’s becoming clear, Mr McCarthy does not need their support as he proved hard, work and gentle persuasion can work wonders. The fleet were divided into two classes A (upto…
