JOHN DAVEY PASSES AWAY

It is with much sadness that we learn of the death of property developer John Davey. John was one of the most enthusiastic offshore racers and his Cougar cat MaCavity recorded some memorable victories. Possibly the most memorable was the race he won but had victory snatched away by what many regarded as underhanded tactics on Fabio Buzzi’s team. MaCavity crossed the finish line of the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes face in first…

MALTESE CLASS ONE EVENT CANCELLED

It was billed as the only World Class 1 GP of 2016, the Maltese GP. Sadly it has been cancelled as the funds from main investor, a South African company has not been forthcoming. The UIM are now desperately seeking a venue that can host a three race championship over five days, like the ‘good old days’ but obviously it will cost money and that could be the stumbling block….

COWES-TORQUAY-COWES – TWELVE ENTRIES SO FAR

The famous Cowes/Torquay/Cowes marathon, now in its 56th year has attracted twelve entries todate although the start gun is not fired until 4th September. There are one or two teams new to this event, Exeter businessman and  keen CTC competitor Drew Langdon teams up with an equally enthusiastic offshore personality Italian Giancarlo Gangiano in Silverline, a Mercury powered Outerlimits hull and this outfit must start as a favourite. Three ‘golden…

WILL FORMULA ONE CATS GO ELECTRIC

It was not all that many years ago, Formula One race cars were only fitted with V12, V8 and maybe V4 powerplants and the suggestion of these cars being electric powered would have been laughed at. However we now know that Formula E race cars are, maybe not the future of F1 but they certainly appease the ‘greenies’ and their speeds are awesome. During the Evian World F1 GP, a…

AWESOME WEEKEND IN WEST BAY – OCRDA & SKI-RACING

My only regret in attending the World F1 Championship in Evian, France was that I missed the 2nd round of the Aqua-Adenaline Series staged by OCRDA in the pictureque Dorset town (village) of West Bay, Dorset. The first round in Torquay attracted 18 entries and West Bay improved on that by two plus there were over twenty ski-racers doing their own thing. It was wall to wall action over the…

CARELLA CLINCHES FULL MARKS AFTER TWO RIVALS SUFFER PROBLEMS

An exciting race was in prospect. American Shaun Torrente driving for Dubai’s Victory Team was in a new Moore hull was pitted against arch rival and reigning world champion Philippe Chiappe driving for CTIC China, determined to do well in front of his home crowd and Alex Carella representing Abu Dhabi was fastest in qualifying. Not surprisingly it never works out as planned. Sure Carella was away first but Torrente…

ROUGH WATER AND HIGH WINDS ON LAKE GENEVA CANCELS TODAYS QUALIFYERS

Although a few practice laps took place in a brief respite in the weather, it soon became clear that qualification would be dangerous as the wave height increased. Its unclear what will happen tomorrow but the plans are that qualifyers will be at 10.15am with just two sessions (subject to weather) with race start at 3.00pm. It is possible to delay race until Monday but it’s unlikely. Although there was…

HAS MOORE JUMPED SHIP

After five very successful years as part of the CTIC China team boatbuilder David Moore appears to have jumped ship and is now part of Dubai’s Victory team. We understand there has been a little unrest within the Chinese/French outfit although we are not in a position to reveal what the problems are but no-one can take away the fact that CTIC China has won two, almost three world titles…

Experience Kissimmee secured their first ever P1 SuperStock UK weekend victory to end a weekend of fantastic powerboat racing on the south coast. Picking up where they left off on Saturday, the Experience Kissimmee team of Neil…
