Following two years of negotiations and planning ICONIC WORLD POWERBOAT and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda have agreed to jointly host their first major international powerboat regatta.
With the full support of the Prime Minister, Gaston Brown and the Minister of Tourism, Asot Michael and the Minister of Sport, Chet Green the event is going to bring the world’s best powerboat racers to Antigua in March 2018, introducing powerboat & jet ski racing to the beautiful waters of Antigua and Barbuda.
The event in Antigua covers the whole island and also includes a concert at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium featuring an internationally renowned artist, yet to be announced, and a massive variety of boats from the USA, Caribbean and Europe. The organisers intend to bring at least 150 boats to the island for a 10 day festival of powerboat racing.
With two major ports of operations Jolly Beach and English Harbour, the regatta encompasses every possible type of boat. From jet skis and single seater Formula 2 boats to massive 200mph offshore boats there are opportunities for every class of racer to participate. The Iconic World Powerboat Concept is designed to include everyone involved in marine motorsport and they have already secured the support of 70 teams. (40 teams from offshore circuit, 20 Inshore teams, 10 Marathon boats and 2 Turbine boats.
Iconic World Powerboat – Antigua 2018 is the first regatta of its kind anywhere in the world, but the team behind it are determined that it will not be the only one. Their management have signed a commitment with the government to run the event for at least the next 3 years and the intention of the Government and ICONIC is to make Antigua a major fixture on the sporting calendar for the foreseeable future.
