Few people knew much about Robin’s racing achievments because he was a quiet unassuming gentleman, but he had won two Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat races and he was almost unbeatable aboard the Red Wing yacht when fleets of them raced in Poole Harbour throughout the summer months.
The Dorset Lake shipyard, where Robin was a Director along with brother Russell, has long been a mecca for powerboat racers, particularly in the 80s when international Class 1 giants gathered at Poole Quay for the Needles Trophy annual event, and photographs of famous powerboats, particularly Italian, adorn the walls of the restaurant and clubhouse.
